I created a drag and drop game using Adobe Flash. I'm pleased with how the game developed but if I was to do it again i'd put alot more work into the graphics.

The hive - Website

I created a small website for the new department at Weymouth College called 'The Hive'. The website gives information on the courses that are available in the department.

Skills Audit

Transferable Skills:

·         Communication

I can communicate well with people I know but sometimes struggle to speak to new people.  Update: my skills have improved in communication since doing two client based projects. I have created a tutorial for someone at the college and created a rich media advert for somebody outside of the college.

·         Teamwork

I really enjoy working as part of a team and really like to get involved with helping out others and come up with ideas. Once I know everybody in the team I like to give my opinions and ideas.  Update: These skills have probably improved how that I have more confidence after working with clients. I feel now that I can get more involved with group work.

·         Leadership

I don’t like taking the lead in many situations, I rather be the person that gets told what to do. I’d like to improve my skills on being a leader. At the moment I just tend to be the follower.  Update: I don’t think these skills have improved but they’re something I need to work on

·         Problem-Solving

I think my skills with problem solving are fairly good although they could be improved. I think my skills have go better since having to work independently on my assignments.


·         Time management -
I believe that my time managing skills are good. I use the time I have to the best of my ability and always try and get the most out of the time that I’m given. I find it fairly easy to manage time once everything has been organized.


·         Organizational skills

Most of the time, I am a really organized person and like to plan out a lot of the things I do. Update: Since getting more work at college I’ve learnt that I have to be more organized. I write a lot more information down now which helps to keep my work organized. I’m good at being organized when it comes to being on time and knowing where I have to be at what time. I think it would help me if I had a diary to write down my plans for the week rather than trying to remember them all the time.

·         Technical:

-Software

-Flash – I have got basic skills on flash in as 2+3. I have created a 4 page website and now I am working on a game. To improve my skills I am going to look at some tutorials and try and pick up new skills. Update: I have learnt a lot more skills in Flash. The projects in college have allowed me to learn more and pick up skills from tutorials and finding and solving problems in my assignments. I find it a lot less stressful to work on Flash now as I can usually sort my own problems out rather than having to find a lecturer or somebody for help. I tend to get things down a lot quicker now too.

-Photoshop- I really enjoy using Photoshop, I have basic skills in manipulating and editing images in Photoshop. I use Photoshop a lot to build mocks-ups for the work I’m doing in flash. Update: I have picked up a lot more skills using Photoshop after completing some of my assignments. I have used Photoshop to plan ideas for the work I do on Flash, I often create mock ups on Photoshop before continuing in the assignment. I think I could definitely learn a lot more so I’m going to keep looking at tutorials online.


-Premiere – I used Premier to edit video footage in the past but I don’t know much about working on premier.  I would like to gain some more skills with this programme so will look at some tutorials online. Update: My skills haven’t improved In Premiere but I am going to try and learn new skills in the next 6 months by following online tutorials and maybe getting a book on Premiere basics.

-Sound booth – I have started using his programme with Alex for our sound unit. I don’t know anything about it yet. Update: I have learnt more about Soundbooth. I know how to use the programme but only know how to do basic things. I’d like to learn more on Soundbooth in Alex’s lessons.

-Camera – We have done 2 filming assignments where I have needed to use the camera equipment. I got on well with it and feel comfortable about using it. I enjoy photography in my spare time at home with my own camera. I’d like to learn more about using the camera so if we have any more assignments using the cameras then I will definitely keep notes on how everything works. I may also do some research on what the camera can do before using it in the assignment.  

·         Creative:

-Visualizing

-Imagination

-Originality – I am not always very good at coming up with ideas, I usually get most of my ideas from seeing what others have done online. Update: I’d like to be able to come up with my own ideas and develop them into a good piece of work. To do this I do think it helps by looking at what others have done and doing some research on the web can also be a benefit to me.  

·         Academic:

-Essay writing – I don’t have any problems writing essays for the assignments we are set in college. Update: I don’t think my skills have improved in essay writing.  If I wanted to improve my essay writing skills in the future then I would probably use the college library to get a book on different tips and techniques.

-Research – I often research what I have to write about before writing an essay and don’t think I have any problems doing this. Update: Making notes on the research I’ve done more often would really help me. I think I’d find it useful for if I ever wanted to look back on some research.  

-Referencing- I reference sources which I have got information from which I include in my essays, I don’t find this difficult. I think it would help me if I referenced websites that I have visited which have been useful for me. Then it would help me if I needed to go back and look at anything for help in the future.

-Taking notes – I find it really beneficial to take notes and often refer to notes that I have written in lecturers or whilst looking at something online. Update: I write notes a lot more now that I need to remember more information for my assignments. The notes that I keep are sometimes only rough so to improve at keeping notes I think I will write down more detail. 

Business Cards

The company that asked me to create a Rich Media Advert for them also asked me to make some business cards which they give out to their staff.

I created business cards for the Managing Director, Operations Manager and Operations Manager Assistant. The company then asked me to created a 'Staff Required' poster.

3ds Max

I created a house in 3ds Max. The house had 4 rooms, I made it as modern as I could and created it as a house I would see as my 'ideal home'. I enjoyed picking up skills on this programme and would really like to do another project on it in the future.

Animation

For a college assignment I was asked to create an animation with a political twist. I chose the riots that happened in the UK (2011) as my theme. The animation is based like a news channel informing viewers of the upcoming events of the riots. This project was the first project I did which I needed lip syncing for… I’ve found this is a useful skill to know and would help me hugely in the future if I were to work on any animations again.
